Description
I remember growing up if someone called you a 'pansy' it meant you were weak, but despite their delicate name and appearance, pansies are actually quite hardy. Pansies are bright and cheerful and the first flowers I plant each Spring. I love this particular flower especially, because I imagine those thin purple lines being carefully painted on with a tiny brush of the Creator's hand. They are disease resistant and do well in cooler climates, or when Spring nights decide to dip into lower temperatures suddenly after weeks of warmth!
The pansy is a member of the Viola family and is easily recognized with their round flowers having five petals. Flowers come in a wide variety of colors and can be single solid color or combinations.
The common name 'pansy' comes from the French word, pensee, which means thought or remembrance. Symbolically in the language of flowers, the pansy is thought to represent thoughts of lovers.
Pansies are one of the oldest cultivated flowers in history and were particularly popular in the 19th century and were commonly used in “love potions”
Did you know some chefs use them as garnishes to decorate their artist meal creations and they actually are edible with a minty flavor? They can be added to salads and desserts.
Pansies have a delicate fragrance, with the yellow and blue pansies seeming to have the strongest scent. Pansy petals are frequently found in Potpourri mixes. The flower can even be used as a natural dye
So now, if anyone calls you "a pansy!' just smile and say "Thank you very much!"
I really appreciate you taking time to look at my artwork. Thank you so much!
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
