Description
It is a family name, Lura Louise, and mom lived her entire life with people mispronouncing it. One dear sweet nurse who cared for her in her last year used to sing this with her each night, so at least she said mom's name right! My heart sings this song each day for it will always be tied to hearing my mom sing it. She was a wonderful person and we miss her so!
Tura Lura Lura ...... written in 1914 by composer James Royce Shannon (1881-1946)
Over In Killarney,
Many years ago,
My Mother sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low;
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good old Irish way,
And I'd give the world to hear her sing
That song of hers today.
[Chorus]
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Hush now don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, That's an Irish lul-la-by
[Verse 2]
Oft, in dreams I wander
To that cot again.
I feel her arms a-hugging me
As when she held me then.
And I hear her voice a humming
To me as in days of yore,
When she used to rock me fast asleep
Outside the bedroom door.
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Hush now don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, That's an Irish lul-la-by
Oh I can hear that music
I can hear that song
Filling me with memories
Of a mother's love so strong
Its melody still haunts me
These many years gone bye
Too ra loo ra loo ral
Until the day I die

Your mother had such intense, beautiful eyes -- like she was always thinking! Love the hat!! Her name is beautiful. I know the song, too! Beautiful family pictures and descriptions. Beautiful heritage, my friend!! A pleasure to see this photograph! :))) L
Karen Adams replied:
She had beautiful eyes and a beautiful soul! When she was able, she was always helping others. I learned so much from her celebration service of how she had helped others and I didn't even know! Really miss her.....

Oh my goodness, Karen! I remember that song! As soon as I saw the lyrics I started singing! What a beautiful name! And your mom is so sweet in this photo...what a lovely innocence in her eyes! L
Karen Adams replied:
Thank you, Sandi...she was so sweet, but so mischievous! She loved to have fun! She actually would get in trouble at her senior home for driving her little power scooter too fast through the halls!
