Description
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in a pretty well to do family. Every summer though found the kids and their mother on a train headed back to Plain City, Ohio and the farm where her mommy had grown up. Daddy had to stay in Boston and work until he had a week or two to join them.
Summers were hot and dirty and spent with 'Lame Grandma,' yup, that's what they called the poor woman! She was really lil Lu's greatgrandma. The farm was a big one and the family well known in the community. Lil Lu loved nature and spent most of her days out in the fields and playing with a vivid imagination.
Years later and now quite a few years ago, I remember going back with lil Lu when she was a grandma and watching her go up to peer in the old opaque windows on the then abandoned little house. I could see the memories racing through her eyes. The longing for yesterdays, for her mom and grandparents, for her brothers, for sleeping out in the front porch, for train rides into the city (Columbus,) for days like this one. I, unfortunately remember her story of watching her mother cut the head off a chicken and seeing it run around the yard! Such different times! She was my link tying me to that past, to my heritage.
Now as I look at this picture of my mom, I am amazed how much I see my own little grand daughter! I find it more than a bit of a coincidence that my grand daughter's nickname is LuLu. They look so much alike and I think they have very similar personalities; sweet and mischievous, sensitive and daring, and smart as a whip (I'll use the old phrase since it seems to fit the moment.)
It is with a feeling of melancholy to look at this, but also I feel joy that this little girl lives on in the family that she created and the love continues that she shared.
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
